I have fallen in love with Glen Coe, the first time we have had a pleasure to pass by it in 2012. In late April the colors that blanket the mountains are amazing. All those browns, yellows and rusts with a bit of green look like amazing velvet blanket woven over the ground.

It is a dangerous territory I wade in.  As my wonderful wife, Kasia, blogs here, and reads my posts.  She's also a photographer.  This arrangement has a lot of pluses, like being able to bounce ideas off each other, or being able to just go shoot northern lights, at the spur of the moment at 2 am in the morning.

Being an opportunistic photographer, I don't have the luxury of time, and spending a few days at a location, waiting for mother nature to smile.  I take what I'm given :)  Some say, that I'm wasting my time and pixels, but I disagree.  Sometimes this works, and sometimes this doesn't.

Going to the mountains is always associated with a risk of having rain, cold, and not a very pleasant day for photography.  Specially when you have to drive about 4 hours.  Yes there are weather forecasts, but as more weather "forecasting" becomes almost common place (all you have to look is your smart phone and there are hundreds of apps trying to tell you what the weather is going to be like), the quality of said forecasts diminishes exponentially.

This year wasn't very good for sunsets.  Huge forest fires in the NWT were at fault, bringing smoke and haze.  So far there were only a couple good days, and most of the time the beautiful fluffy clouds would burn away by sunset, leaving empty blue skies.  This is was one of those days.  The canola fields in Alberta, creating wonderful contrasts with the big blue skies, it's always a great sight.....
