Can't Wait!

The snow is mostly gone, here on the prairies, but it will be some weeks before we see greenery and flowers blooming. I can’t wait! It has been a long winter and I sure could use a bit of color. Late spring or early summer images are great for it because all is fresh and green is bright and not dimmed by dust of late summer days.

We are lucky here in Alberta, because some nights are full of light show. We had a couple of gorgeous Aurora showing last fall and I have managed to capture some shots without leaving the city.

Not Ready for Winter Images Yet...

I know, I know it is winter and everybody posts winter photography, but I am not ready for it yet. I see it outside my window every day, so I want to see something warm, colorful and pretty. Hope you are in need of this as well.

How Summer Began

It has been a while since I’ve posted anything about Elk Island National Park. So, I think, it is time for some lovely sunset from the beginning of summer, when all was green, flowers were blooming and days were warm and long.

It’s wintery outside. With colder weather and short days I find myself thinking of summer. Summer visits to forest, here in Alberta, are one of my favorites ways to spend a weekend.

Cokin Filters


On the advice of a friend I started looking into the Cokin Creative System of filters. It's an interesting system, because 1 can fit almost all type of lenses. Cokin makes this available in 4 different flavors for different type of cameras. The P-System will fit most DSLRs with lenses ranging from 48mm up to 82mm. These measurements are for the outer lens diameter. What's so nice about this system is that first it is very inexpensive, compared to the screw-on type filters, and second it is very versatile. For different types lenses all you need is the adaptor ring, which here in Canada retails for about $15.00. On the adaptor ring goes a plastic holder, that's one size fits all. You insert the filters, which are square 84mm sheets of organic glass, into the holder. Now comes the fun part. There are a lot of different filters, and I mean a lot. The holder can accommodate up to 3 different filters, which gives a lot more combinations of creativity, and the filters are about $25.00 for most types. Here are a couple of examples I took early in the morning, with a gradual fog filter.
