Winter Has Come to Elk Island - Landscape Photography and more..

Yes, we got snow! It seems it's been a regular occurrence at the beginning of November for the past few years.. Well, can't do much about it but try and enjoy the event, so we have taken a trip to Elk Island with a group of photographic friends and went exploring. Here is a few shots from that outing.  Must say, the world looks quite beautiful in a fresh layer of white! Hope you enjoy :D Kasia

Beautiful British Columbia - Part 3 - Travel Photography

Our adventure with travel photography in Vancouver, BC continues with  Lynn Valley (previous post picturing Jericho Beach Park: Beautiful British Columbia - Part 2 - Travel Photography). It is a lovely place full of gorgeous trees, lots of stairs and a charming Rice Lake, as a culmination of one of the hiking trails. That day, the sun was shining through the canopy and making this dark, rain forest very beautiful. I wish I could see it with fog laying on the ground, with some sun rays shining through... It would look truly spectacular! But, as a guest, staying only for a day or two, one can only get what is there and don't complain about the ambiance ;D.  I love the play of light and shadow! As difficult it is to photograph it you always feel a wonderful sense of pleasure when your effort pays off! I hope you'll enjoy those few shots... Kasia

Let's Go Skiing - Edmonton Lifestyle Photography

Alberta skiers are a hardy bunch.  Even lack of snow and generally hot temperatures of a brief summer season, does not deter them from putting on some skis and going for a run.  I happened on a couple of them training.  It was quite an sight.  Lucky I  my cameras with me to document the event. Some of you might find it silly, but I had this idea for a very long time.  I think the main problem with realizing it, was finding someone crazy enough to actually do it.  I finally found that person and the little project could go ahead.  It was a lot of fun shooting it.  I can finally cross it out of my projects..... or can I? :)  Looking at the images after, I think I could go one step further, expand on the idea.  Hmmm.... rusted gears in my head are starting to spin, I just hope I don't break anything :)  For now I'll let you enjoy the current project....

The dinosaurs are alive!!! - part 1

Dinosaurs We just got back from an amazing trip back in time.  We visited a new park near Edmonton called the "Jurassic Forest" . It's located about 15 min north of Edmonton, and it's a 40 acre prehistoric preserve.  It's a wonderful place to visit.  The dinosaurs are full size and they are set in the forest, making for more natural experience.

Dinosaur

Are these real??

A herd.

There are two walking trails the South and North loop, which showcase the life of various dinosaurs found around Alberta.  It's actually quite cool to be walking down the trail and in a split second facing a row of sharp teeth and piercing eyes staring at you from between the trees.  At that moment you really hope, that  you have not traveled back in time!

You're dinner!

People who work there are very friendly, and know their dinosaurs.  We had a tour guide, that told us all about the park, and the dinosaurs, and was really good with engaging the kids.  She was genuinely happy to walk around with us, and explain how the park was built, and how the dinosaurs came to live there.  I did manage to snap a picture of her, but I did not ask for her name.

Tour Guide

The park I think is more designed for kids, than adults, although we had just as much fun as the kids.  Even the normal warning signs are done with a little humor, like this:

No Pets!

Overall it's a great place to visit.  Even have a little picnic.  There is a little store where you can buy food, but it's perfectly fine to bring your own and sit down and relax at a picnic table in a nice shaded area.

I have a few more photos to share from our trip, so they'll be posted a little later.  I think the coolest thing was, once we exited the car on the parking lot, we heard the roar of the dinosaurs in the distance.  Definitely will be coming back.
