Canada Day Fireworks in Edmonton

Canada Day Fireworks in Edmonton

I was debating with myself, if I should post these, as unfortunately it's a perfect illustration of a mistake.  One big mistake, of being lazy. Almost every year we venture into the Edmonton downtown to view the spectacular fireworks display on Canada Day.  This year, we figured we are going to try a different venue.  So we got there a few hours before the show, and were greeted with huge masses of people....

During the last Scott Kelby's World Wide Photowalk, I decided not to sign up, but I still met up with my buddy Randy Pond, and spend a nice afternoon walking around and practicing street photography.  I decided to make this walk a little more challenging, by taking only one lens with me, the fish-eye.  I really like the results of this experiment, hope you like these too.  Enjoy!

Well.... a part 3 to the fish eye post.  I guess I liked so many of the photos from the little downtown trip, that I just can't help myself.  I guess it's the thrill of a new thing, a new curved perspective on the world.  Yes I like the fish eye lens.  I like the way the world looks through it.  It puts a smile on my face.  So here are the last shots from my downtown Edmonton trip.  Enjoy!

Taking the fish eye to the streets... Part 1

One lens, one camera, one city.... sounds like a intro for a challenge, but it really isn't when you take a fish eye lens, to the streets of downtown.  Fish eye and architecture, don't mix well, specially for purists.  I'm not a purist, and I really like when a building is bending in a weird and interesting way in an image.  That was the main goal that day.  See how many interesting photos can I take just walking around downtown Edmonton with a little fish eye lens.  Enjoy the results!

Here fishy fishy fishy

Playing around a little more with the fish eye lens.  What better place to test it out than a lovely Elk Island sunset.  So here is another Elk Island sunset, but this time with the huge distortion of a fish eye lens.  Personally I'm really liking the effect this lens produces.  Makes me wonder if fish really see the world that way :) Enjoy!

Different Landscape

I was always skeptical, and thought that a fish-eye lens would be a toy.  Something not to be treated seriously.  Well I will admit I was wrong.  I like the effect it has on a landscape.  I guess some people, might not like the effect this lens can produce, but I always liked it.  I think if used right a fisheye lens has a place in any photographers arsenal.  I have decided to test it on an Alberta landscape.  Since I've never shot with a lens like that I did not know that the photographer can control the amount of distortion.  Also this is a hugely wide angle lens.  I almost get lost in the wideness of the world seen through the lens.  It's quite amazing.  Here are some test shots.  Enjoy.
