Rainy day in Jasper - Alberta landscape photography

Rainy day in Jasper - Alberta landscape photography

Going to the mountains is always associated with a risk of having rain, cold, and not a very pleasant day for photography.  Specially when you have to drive about 4 hours.  Yes there are weather forecasts, but as more weather "forecasting" becomes almost common place (all you have to look is your smart phone and there are hundreds of apps trying to tell you what the weather is going to be like), the quality of said forecasts diminishes exponentially.

Beautiful Lake Louise - Travel Photography

One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in Canadian Rockies is Lake Louise in Banff National Park.  I am drawn to it over and over again regardless of the season. It is simply picturesque and one cannot blame me, really, for taking lots of pictures while I am there.. We have visited it again, during our December trip to the mountains. I have already shared some of the pictures from this trip in my post Solstice Sunrise in the Rockies and, with a great pleasure, I'd like to show you some more.  Hope you find them pleasing. Winter really can be beautiful and since we are stuck with it here for months on end I'd rather concentrate on it's better aspects..  And if you can add to it a little bit of travel that's even better. Travel photography is a beautiful thing! ;D Have a wonderful weekend everybody! Kasia

Winter in the Rockies - Alberta Landscape Photography

Last week, we spent a wonderful quiet couple of days in the Rockies, specifically in Lake Louise.   I don't think we ever been there during winter.  During summer, Lake Louise is a very busy place, and very picturesque.  This time however, the tourists were mostly gone, and one could say we had the place to ourselves.  My wife and I, prepared ourselves with tripods, ready for night photography, sunsets, and sunrises.  Unfortunately the weatherman was completely off with the forecasts, and all we really got is snow, snow and more snow.  We had to forgo our dreams of spectacular rocky mountain sunsets, and take advantage of what mother nature gave us.  Most of my images are processed in B&W, just because with all the snow falling, there was almost no color to be seen.  The world was black, gray, and white.  Here is the first batch of images I want to show you.  There will be a few more after this post :)  Enjoy! alberta landscape photography lake louiserocky mountains alberta landscape photographeralberta winter landscape snow photographerlake louise alberta landscape winter photographysnow winter landscape alberta photographer

Rocky Mountain Flora

It's winter out there!! The snow keeps on falling (we've got well over 10cm of it already!!) and the world is turning white.. I thought, for today, a little bit of color would cheer us up and brighten our day.  This series of images was shot during our recent trip to the Rockies.  Hope you enjoy! Kasia

Scotland The Begining.... from the Fuji Xpro 1 point of view

So we have arrived in sunny Scotland.... ummm not quite.  It was Scotland alright, but it was far far from being sunny.  Coming from warm sunny Spain, it felt almost like coming back to Canada.  The only difference the vehicles were on the wrong side of the road.  The first night in the hotel I managed place my Fuji on a little tripod I brought, and snap this image of Edinburgh at night. edinburgh night city scotland

The next day we spent driving around, visiting small towns and a haunted castle.  Here are some of my images from that day.  Enjoy!

The year is coming to a close, and although I am planning visiting Jasper National Park, and the mountains in the winter, it will have to wait until the new year.  What a great way to start a fresh new Adobe Lightroom catalog, with new winterscapes from the Rocky Mountains.  I will try.  So here are the last of the postcards from Jasper National Park taken in the fall of 2011.  Enjoy!

Along with my micro 4/3 camera I brought along my Canon 1D and my 90mm tilt-shift lens.  I always like the view through that lens.  It's always something different.  Some will scoff at it's use in landscape photography, but I really like the effects it can produce.  So here is a bit of fall in the Rockies through a tilt-shift.  Enjoy!

Fall in the Rockies is truly spectacular.  As you can see.  This was the first time we went to Patricia and Pyramid lakes.  Both are quite a sight.  I brought only two cameras with me, a micro 4/3 and my 1D with a tilt-shift.  These are all done with a micro 4/3 camera. Enjoy!

Jasper is a magical place.  I finally had a chance to edit the pictures that I took on our last day excursion to the mountains.  It was a good couple of months, but the wedding, family, boudoir images take precedence over anything personal.  I hope you enjoy these, as they are a perfect example how wonderful fall is in the rockies.  Enjoy!
