Even during the coldest days, there comes a time when sitting at home is no longer an option. I have been very lucky to be able to escape the city as often as I have. Even if it is only for a couple of hours, just being able to spend some time in the open, with sun shining above and a big Alberta sky.. Since days are short, our outings, quite often, end up with a sunset. Such a nice way to end a day, don't you think? The closest place to Edmonton to get a bit of fresh air, see an animal or two, or just take a walk in the woods is Elk Island National Park. When temperatures are low enough, you can even take a walk on frozen Astotin Lake, and visit an island in the middle of it. I always have a camera with me and I always bring back a picture or two.
