It’s not very pretty outside today, here in Edmonton, so a colorful post with pretty flowers should cheer us all up a bit.. Red… Such an amazing color!
Macro in Green
I’ve always loved shooting macros, but this year the ability to go out to take pictures of colorful, sparkly things has become my sanity. It’s been a crazy time for all of us. I’m sure others have found different ways of dealing with the stress and annoyances of our current situation but for me, there is nothing better than getting up early in the morning, or going out in the early evening and taking pictures.

Can't Wait For Spring!
That was spring..
A Little Macro Never Hurt Anybody..
have said it before and, I'm going to say it again. There is nothing better than looking at some colorful macros when it's freezing cold outside, days are short and the world is covered in white. I think, considering how cold it has been so far on the prairies, that we all deserve a bit of color therapy.
Winter Days At Elk Island
Even during the coldest days, there comes a time when sitting at home is no longer an option. I have been very lucky to be able to escape the city as often as I have. Even if it is only for a couple of hours, just being able to spend some time in the open, with sun shining above and a big Alberta sky..
Time For Holidays
December - one of the busiest times of year. It is so hard to find a minute to relax with a camera, take a walk, take some pictures... I am like most, hardly find a moment to indulge, but I do try. There is just so many opportunities to play with bokeh this time of year, when everywhere you look there are lights that can be used to make things pretty.
Fall..
It's Finally Here!
This year, spring has been very slow to arrive. Two snow storms and gloomy skies and rains during April and nothing in nature was moving until the arrival of May. I was so very happy to see the buds finally starting to open up and wasn't able to resist taking some macro gear and starting on the pictures.
Winter on the Prairies
From Abraham Lake to Banff - a Short Winter Ride Through the Rockies
You never know what weather you encounter when you go to the mountains. Winter, especially, is the time when you need some caution, while planning any trip and sometimes you need to adjust your plans accordingly. Originally we have planned to come back from Abraham Lake through Jasper, but because of road conditions we have decided to take the road to Banff instead
Summer on the Prairies - Part 2
Photographing flat prairies presents a challenge. It's easy to take a good photo of mountains, since all you need is good light and the pictures take themselves. Rockies are just too beautiful and full of interesting views. Prairies, though, require a bit more of an effort, since one has to find something to catch one's eye, to create an interesting composition.

Is Being Bored Good Or Bad?
I've found myself bored recently, stuck at home and not willing to go anywhere with my camera. There was a very Canadian reason for it. It was freezing outside with winds bringing the cold close to -40 Centigrade and sun making almost no appearance at all. Depressing, if you ask me, so I decided to use my go to therapy for winter blues: play with color.
Masked - Boudoir Photography
When it comes to boudoir photography I really love using masks. They add an air of mystery, seduction, and maybe a little ... je ne sais quoi.. :) This particular piece I found right before Halloween, in a costume store. When it comes to props during a boudoir session, they can enhance the look, or completely destroy it. It's all about how they are being used. One thing to keep in mind is to never over use them. They should never distract from the subject. In our boudoir sessions we seldom use props, unless they will enhance the session, or will create a certain mood that the you ,as a client, wants. Sometimes props can be really simple, like his favorite shirt or a tie. They can also reflect your personality, like your favorite cowboy hat, or boots. Another great idea that may involve props, is to step out of your comfort zone a little and maybe do something risque, like having your boudoir session done... outdoors. :) Like this one. Enjoy!
