The First Sunrise of 2013

What is the best way to celebrate New Year? Why, shooting a sunrise, of course! ;D Thus we were quite excited to get up way before dawn on January 1st and take a drive in the country. The temperatures were pretty high (considering that we've spent a month of close to -20oC, whether with windchill or not..), but the cold wind has decided to pick up and blow snow through the prairies, creating picturesque snowdrifts on the sides of the roads. At places there was a very deep snow in the shoulders (way above my knee), which I tested trying to get one particular shot of a small heard of horses in the sunrise light (below). All in all, the trip was very good, even if we have returned slightly frozen and windblown. After all, if the animals can roam the prairies in such a weather, why not us? Hope you enjoy these wintery images of rural Alberta in the light of, fist, the moon and then, the fist sunrise of this year!

Abandoned Farm Continued..

I don't know if you remember our trip in January to shoot a sunrise. We have found this wonderful abandoned farm in the middle of prairies that has served not only as a great excuse to shoot the world at dawn.  A piece of Alberta's history is slowly falling apart and as sad as it makes me feel I am grateful that they are still here waiting to be photographed and, in some small way, remembered. I thought, I'd share some more shots from that trip with you today. The light was gorgeous, the temperatures not too low :) and the company excellent. What more can a person want?! Kasia

Magical World

We have been very lucky again the other day to wake up to the world covered in fog.  If you follow our blog you'll notice this is the second time this year!!  I was not able to go out before dawn, but I have managed to get a few shots from my window. What a treat that was!! The colours of pre-dawn sky with wisps of fog on the streets! Gorgeous! Later on that day, I took my cameras out and got completely lost in the magic of the moment.  I share these images with you in hope that you'll enjoy them, at least, as much as I enjoyed capturing them.  Go ahead! Get lost in the magic with me! It's so worth it!! :D

Industrial Dawn - Part 2

Photographers often go out of the city in search of a perfect sunrise, just like we did some time ago when we have found an abandoned farm.  Sometimes however, one cannot leave for one reason or another. But even in the industrial part of the city we can find something interesting. The morning light highlights the details and allows us to see that industrial dawn can be as interesting as the rural one. I hope you agree! Kasia

Getting lost never was so rewarding.  You can easily get lost on the Alberta back roads, specially when you are not really paying attention to where you are going, only to the landscape around you.  Luckly a homing GPS will get you out of most troubles, with which we realized that we traveled over 100km away from home.  Here are more results of getting lost.  Enjoy!

Driving and ultimately getting lost in the Alberta back roads must be the best pass time for me.  There is nothing better than enjoying good music, great company, beautiful scenery, and picture taking.  This is what happened when me and my lovely wife, took to the Alberta back roads. Initially we wanted to visit Elk Island National park, but I took a wrong turn somewhere along the way.  The rest as they say is history... of images.  Enjoy!

Fall has almost past.  The leaves are almost gone from the trees, and there is a chill in the air..... snow is coming.  It's inevitable.  These images were done when fall was still beginning, which was just barely 4 weeks ago.  Went to Elk Island in the morning, then returned in the evening.  Just wanted to capture the moving sunlight, as everything looks different in the morning, than in the evening.  Unfortunately the day was cloudless, but I tried making the most of it.  Enjoy.
