Banff in October - Part 9

Banff in October - Part 9

Sunrise in the mountains is as great as a sunset, enjoyed the best in peace and quiet. Unfortunately, that was not the case that morning. It seems like a lot of tourists decided to go shooting in the same location as we did and they were running around yelling and generally making a nuisance of themselves…

Foggy winter mornings are a wonderful treat for photographers.  I was so happy to be able to take advantage of one such morning a short while back, even if I was frozen stiff after returning home ;D Not being able to travel too far that day, we took our dog for a walk in Hermitage Park here in Edmonton.

I have been slacking.  Mostly because .... I guess I'm lazy.  I do have a backlog of images that are asking politely to be posted somewhere... maybe someone will like them?  What if no one really cares?  Will that have an impact?  Should it have an impact?  Should our creativity be influenced by someone liking or disliking or simply not caring about the images we create

Beautiful British Columbia - Part 6 - Travel Photography

Long Beach, one of the most known places in Pacific Rim National Park Reserve on Vancouver Island.  Quite a beautiful place, full of sand and driftwood. We have visited it one misty morning (with one short stop in the evening), taking a long walk, enjoying a breeze and the sound of waves.  Lot's of cool stuff to find and take pictures of! As beautiful in the morning as it is in the evening sun.. We were lucky to get a very good light both times (which is not always the case with travel photography) and here is a few pictures I have taken while visiting.  To check our previous post, just click on the following link: Beautiful British Columbia - Part 5 - Travel Photography. Kasia

When we were leaving the beach the second time, I could not resist taking picture of these shoes hanging on the wires.  It's funny, but I think I have seen such things everywhere I have visited.. What is it with people's need to leave them like that?!

Cold Foggy Morning - Alberta Landscape Photography

It supposed to be spring.  My wife posted a few landscape images from this time last year.  What a difference.  No snow, warm days, beautiful sunsets.  This year, Ms. Spring is a little late.  Which still allows for wonderful winter sunrise images.  Another foggy morning at the end of March, and very cold.  I think the temperatures in the park dipped down to -24C.  We were both frozen, but very happy.  The world looked absolutely spectacular.  Kasia posted some of her images from that day, really great landscape images.  I took a little longer to process my images from that day, but I think it was worth it.  Enjoy! foggy winter sunrise alberta landscape photographer

Embracing Winter

You know? There is really no escaping the fact, that no matter what my wishes are, the winter is really not ready to depart just yet.. In this case lets enjoy it!These were taken on a rare sunny morning with blue sky and mists enveloping the River Valley and Rundle Park here in Edmonton. It was rather cold that morning as well, and the snow was just so very fresh covering earth in a pristine blanket of white.  So, so beautiful!!! Well, if you can't get rid of it, embrace it!! ;D

Fall... I Miss You!

The snow keeps on falling. There is over 20cm of the white stuff already on the ground.  Our roads are a mess and I am not planning on venturing anywhere for a while, at least... I miss fall with its gorgeous colors and misty mornings.  It doesn't last too long around here, so I was very happy to be able to make a trip to a park close to my home one misty morning and shoot the mysterious world covered in fog.. Here it is, the park still dressed in autumn colors, hugged by mists.. Enjoy! :) Kasia

Yup! Fall is here...

Summer is over. Not only by the calendar but you can see the colours changing almost in front of your eyes out there and turning the recently green world into a myriad of golds, yellows, oranges and reds.  Since the day was wonderfully sunny and warm yesterday we have pretty much spent it all outside on photo shoots.  First we've decided to check Elk Island for morning mists (which have never showed up, BTW), than I took a walk about the neighbourhood with my camera and then, towards the evening, we have taken off to check out the countryside again... Wherever we went the colours were there. In just a couple of weeks everything has changed... Let's start with a sunrise at Elk Island:

And here is a few shots from the city, which is also quickly changing it's colours:

The morning sun has highlighted everything beautifully bringing out the colours and shapes of fall  :).  And , as the day progressed towards the evening and we took a ride in the country, the evening sun has brought out the colours out even more..

Our luck held and we were given a beautiful sunset to enjoy as well, with a big sun on a hazy sky giving the world a beautiful glow..

As you can see, the signs of fall are everywhere. The gathering of birds that are already flying south, the colours of leaves and ripe fruit on the trees, the general feel of the world are all crying out: Fall is here!!!   I'm going to enjoy it as long as I can hoping, that the frost and winds won't come too early and cause the beautiful leaves to fall and leave the world naked and monochromatic again..

Winter Reflections.. Part 2

I think Mac was a bit optimistic trying to say good-bye to Lady Winter yet.  I am sure we all are tired of her, but the truth is we have no choice but to endure her rule... What helps me to survive is looking for little treasures in the winter world and recording them as I find them. With a little colour here and an interesting light there, one can almost always find something eye-catching even among dried up weeds and grasses.. :) Just like in the first post of this series, I have included images of plants that endure Alberta's winter every year. Here is what I would like to share with you today. Hope you find them as interesting as I did! Kasia

Magical World.. Part 2

If it is cold enough fog produces a beautiful layer of a hoar frost on everything it touches. And if you are lucky enough the wind is not there to destroy it too quickly.  I was recently such a lucky person.  If you remember my previous post I was just there with my cameras when it was all happening and here are some more images from that magical morning when fog has covered the world and dressed it in wonderful designs. Magical World

We have been very lucky again the other day to wake up to the world covered in fog.  If you follow our blog you'll notice this is the second time this year!!  I was not able to go out before dawn, but I have managed to get a few shots from my window. What a treat that was!! The colours of pre-dawn sky with wisps of fog on the streets! Gorgeous! Later on that day, I took my cameras out and got completely lost in the magic of the moment.  I share these images with you in hope that you'll enjoy them, at least, as much as I enjoyed capturing them.  Go ahead! Get lost in the magic with me! It's so worth it!! :D

Fall Colours - Part 2

Some time ago, in my first post of this series, I have shown you what amazing colours a mountain ash turns during fall. Today, I would like to share a few pictures I took during our trip to the Rockies in October of last year. Mac has already shared some of his images in his post Fall Leafs in Jasper and I thought, it would be nice to show you some of mine as well... When we arrived the foliage was still covered by frost, that has not managed to melt in the morning sun, but as the day grew warmer all that was left behind was amazing colour.  Here it is, the splendour of last fall in Jasper National Park.

Foggy World - Part 3

So.. I'm still stuck on the fog... I can't seem to leave it be.. It's just that the light is too fascinating and the colours too pretty to abandon that splendour. The menacing fog, rolling around (mind you, as I've mentioned before - with the sun it wasn't that scary .. but it could be..) results in quite dramatic scenery, when processed as black and white. When you leave the colour on, the golds and oranges of sunrise paint the world beautifully.  I really hope that you still enjoy the imagery... Kasia

Foggy World - Part 2

The world often looks somewhat eerie, when blanketed with fog. Fortunately for me yesterday, the sun was up and the sky was blue above the fog thus I was able to admire the golden haze surrounding it without feeling uncomfortable. The moisture in the air and the cold temperatures resulted in frost covering grass and trees, adding to the appeal of the scenery.  Surrounded by Mother Nature's splendour I seem to have forgotten about the cold for quite some time and managed to take a lot of pictures, which I'd like to share with you. Way too many for just one post, thus today's part 2 and there will be more...  Hope you like them. Kasia

A good friend of mine decided that we should skip the Elk Island morning, and go somewhere else.  So Devil's Lake it was.  It was a very quiet morning, and very beautiful.  We spent the few hours driving around the lake and surrounding areas.  Fall is in full swing, and colors are absolutely spectacular.  It was a great time of shutters clicking and quiet conversation.  Enjoy!

Bison of Elk Island

Over the last few weeks I traveled to Elk Island numerous times.  It was either for the purpose of photographing a sunset, or sunrise, or stars.  One animal that you cannot miss at Elk Island National Park, is the bison.  They are found almost everywhere.  I can never escape taking at least a few shots of them.  It never gets boring.  They are magnificent creatures, that at times seem docile and slow, but trust me, you don't want to find yourself facing a charging one.  So when visiting Elk Island National Park, and you happen on a bison, slow down, stop, roll down your windows, and enjoy!
