Can't Wait!

The snow is mostly gone, here on the prairies, but it will be some weeks before we see greenery and flowers blooming. I can’t wait! It has been a long winter and I sure could use a bit of color. Late spring or early summer images are great for it because all is fresh and green is bright and not dimmed by dust of late summer days.

We are lucky here in Alberta, because some nights are full of light show. We had a couple of gorgeous Aurora showing last fall and I have managed to capture some shots without leaving the city.

Not Ready for Winter Images Yet...

I know, I know it is winter and everybody posts winter photography, but I am not ready for it yet. I see it outside my window every day, so I want to see something warm, colorful and pretty. Hope you are in need of this as well.

How Summer Began

It has been a while since I’ve posted anything about Elk Island National Park. So, I think, it is time for some lovely sunset from the beginning of summer, when all was green, flowers were blooming and days were warm and long.

It’s wintery outside. With colder weather and short days I find myself thinking of summer. Summer visits to forest, here in Alberta, are one of my favorites ways to spend a weekend.

Alexandra Falls N.W.T

On the way to Northwest Territories, one has to stop at the Twin Falls Gorge Park.  It is situated not far from the Alberta / NWT border, and it is a site to behold.  Alexandra Falls is the first set of falls on the Hay River.  It is the largest of the two falls, measuring about 36m (107ft).  The site is absolutely spectacular.  On one side you have this caramel coloured river: Hay River

On the other you have a long and deep canyon:

In between there is Alexandra Falls.

The deep caramel colour of the river is a caused by  its flow through acidic peat and has no connection with human pollution.  I have ventured to the side of the falls, just to see how close I can get to the edge.  Not the smartest move on my part, as the rock by the edge was wet and slippery.  The roar of the water was deafening and the drop was mesmerizingly terrifying.  I managed to snap this shot from as close to edge as I dared to go:

Researching the falls a little I found this video on youtube, (it's not my video!) that shows a person walking to where I dared to go.

Winter... it's still here.

Yes, it's been a while again. All I can say is that this winter is getting on my nerves. Non stop freezing temperatures of -27C and below, and blowing winds. This makes it really difficult to go anywhere. Today my friend and me braved the bitterly cold weather, and decided to go out photo-hunting.
