The summer is in full swing now. We are all enjoying wonderful colors surrounding us wherever we go. I still remember, though, all the spring months, when I was impatiently awaiting this to happen. Being short of time, I really appreciated the rare moments when we could escape the city for a couple of hours and visit Elk Island National Park
End of March on the prairies.. Depending on the year, it may be that there is still a lot of snow outside the city, or, it might be mostly gone. It maybe sunny or it may be snowing or raining.. Sometimes the days are warm, sometimes it can get into -20oC for a few days.. You never know what you can find traveling the prairies.
The last part of the record of our photographic one day journey has all to do with being inspired by just one mountain. It is one of my favorites in all of Rockies (that I have seen so far, of course). It is so full of colors, with a pleasing shape, always great to photograph, no matter the time of year.
It is an interesting experience to visit Elk Island at night. We are a city creatures, not very comfortable with being in nature without the ability to see. And then, there are the noises. It is so eerie to stand in the middle of nowhere, where it is pitch black and so quiet that every noise carries a long way. Hard to judge the distance separating us from the animals making that noise.
Sunsets are not that easy to photograph in early spring. During the week there is simply not enough time to get sufficiently far away from the city to catch it, during weekends - the weather does not often cooperate. Last year we took several trips to try and get nice shots and even managed to visit Spaca Moskalyk
Last summer wasn't as full of outings as I would have liked. Time, seems to be more and more a rare commodity and trying to fit a trip outside the city can be rather difficult. I treasure every one of those outings. Even, if I don't bring a lot of pictures back, it is a pleasure to just wander, letting the road take us, wherever it goes.
I have totally forgotten about this collection of pictures, shot during our little excursion outside the city last year on my birthday. It was a cold and frosty day with a beautiful blue sky. Such days make me think that I don't hate cold as much ;D Winter doesn't often give us opportunities for bright and cheerful photography, that is why I enjoy this so much. Sunny skies, frost and fresh snow on the ground make for quite lovely views, much appreciated, I think, during long and cold winters.
Located on the Trail of the Eagle's Nests, Ogrodzieniec Castle rules over the Krakow-Czestochowa Upland in southern Poland. Established first in early 12th century, destroyed and rebuilt numerous times since then it was finally abandoned at the beginning of 19th century due to extensive fire damage and remains a picturesque ruin ever since.
