Testing a 16mm with Sebastian.

I wanted to see the difference between my Canon 17-40mm wide angle lens and the Canon 16-35mm lens.  The 16-35mm is twice as expensive as the 17-40mm, probably because it's a f2.8, and the 17-40mm is only f4.0-5.6.  Numbers aside, testing it in the field produced very similar results.  For landscape they are pretty much the same as landscapes are usually shot at f8.  I can see the 16-35mm being an interesting effect lens specially with such a small aperture.  So I tested that on Sebastian.  As always he was willing to have some pictures taken, and made some faces for the camera.... I'm hoping I'm not creating a monster here :) So here are the tests results.... see if you can tell the difference between a 17-40mm and a 16-35mm.

Getting ready for Halloween

My youngest decides that a week before Halloween he's ready to go trick or treating.  It was very hard to convince him that it wasn't time yet.  The concept of a week was an abstract notion to him, and it would usually last anywhere from 5 min to 15 min, before he would start asking again.  He spent almost a whole week running around in his Spiderman costume.  I managed to get some shots of him during that week, and here they are.  Enjoy. Trying out new lens.

So the sunday photo shoot didn't come into fruition. It's a perfect time of the year to get sick, and unfortunately my model did just that. Too bad, I do hope she feels better. That means I couldn't try out my new lens..... or could I. All the photos that I take, I hardly take any serious photos of my family. I mean yes there are you typical family outings snapshots, but they are what they are, snapshots really and more personal than anything. This time I thought it would be interesting to see how my two boys react to portraiture. I slapped on my new Canon 50mm f1.8 lens set up the lights and off we went. They managed to be half serious for about a minute, and it was back to their goofy selves. Out of this, came new respect for child photographers, and great impression on the new lens.

Portraiture

I figured I will try some portraiture with my youngest son Sebastian. I read an interesting passage today. The best way to start with photography, is to start photographing your loved ones. Either you will get clobbered, or you might get some interesting shots like these. These were taken with on camera flash and a Fong diffuser. Enjoy.

I don't know...

Got me a Fong

At the advise of a friend and after reading some reviews, I got myself a Fong. Basically it's a very cool light diffuser for your flash. The design allows for the flash to be dispersed around, giving a nice uniform light around the subject. It's made out of soft plastic with a lid that snaps on top. You might compare it to one of those tupperware containers. Inside it's not smooth but little ridges, which allow the flash to throw the light all around. So far I'm impressed with the results, and I know I will use my flash more often. Here is what this looks like. Little Sebastian was gracious to give me this pose.... then it was "no more picures daddy" :)
