I always like simple setups. Maybe because I'm inherently lazy, or maybe because I like simple things. This portrait session with different looks, was exactly that. Shot with the Fuji XT1, and nothing but sunlight.
Smokin' - Conceptual Portrait Photography with Fuji XT1
When I started with my photography, years and years ago, I was never keen on photographing people. I was once told that my images, although very nice, looked like post cards. They never featured my friends or family, only the nature and landscapes surrounding us. I wasn't deterred by it, and kept making images the way I liked.
A day at the farm - Lifestyle Photography
A couple of weeks ago, I spent a very nice morning at an abandoned farm with Miss N. It was a perfect day to experiment a little. With three cameras and 85mm f1.8, 50mm f1.2 and 35mm f1.4, I had plenty of options. I really don't like changing lenses in the field, as this introduces dust into the camera. Also having a mirror less cameras makes it even worse, because the sensor is fully exposed when the lens is removed. Miss N, was absolutely wonderful to work with. Full of energy and full of ideas to add to the whole session. We started off very early in the morning, at 6:30am, just to be able to catch the best light. Miss N was ready from the start. It is great when you working with a person like that. The whole session is a lot more fun and time just flies by. We got a lot of images that day, and I would like to share with you some I would call lifestyle photography, with a beautiful woman, a beautiful dress and the contrast of an old farm. Enjoy!
More Miss B in the boudoir studio - Boudoir Photography
Here are some more images of Miss B boudoir session, that we started yesterday. Each boudoir session is different. A new wardrobe change and it creates a whole new look. Changes the mood, and feel. It changes the flow of the session. It can go from sensual and peaceful to something more energetic. We love capturing movement, emotion, and energy. This makes a wonderful and memorable boudoir session.
Miss T - Boudoir Photography
A few weeks ago, we had a great pleasure of working with Miss T for her boudoir session in our studio. Miss T brought an unusual item, specially for boudoir, her boxing gloves. That added a new twist to the theme. I encourage this very much in our boudoir photography sessions. The sessions are very personal, and anything that can add a touch of you, something that makes the images unique is just brilliant. We try to make our boudoir sessions an event. Something that makes you feel special, like going to a spa and getting pampered. That's what our boudoir session are like. Fun, full of laughter and energy. Just for you to feel super special. Usually we do not post any images from our sessions. Well because they are kinda private, and personal. From time to time we get permission from our special ladies to show a few, like Miss W boudoir session, and Miss T has graciously allowed us to show some of her images. There are a lot more.... but only for Miss T :)
So why don't you give us a call and setup your own glamour, boudoir, sexy, photography session.
Romantic B&W Couples
There are times where B&W photography is almost a must. Times where the world around us is devoid of color. Like this set. I find that taking images of couples is very rewarding. My approach is very hands off. I find that having a couple be themselves, leads to the best images. I might throw in a word or two, but mostly I just let them be. Enjoy!
Lifestyle Photogaphy in B&W
I always like b&w photography. There are certain situations that cannot be expressed better than in b&w. This lifestyle session was one of them. It was a cold cold day, and I was impressed that the model was able to pull this off. Quite amazed. Enjoy!
Portraits of a Photographer - Danielle Lucier
I had a chance to meet Danielle quite a while ago. We did some portraits for her website. Also I was honored to do a family photo session with her beautiful family. This time we met at Edmonton's Whyte Ave, to try out some lenses. Here are some test shots from that meeting, done with then almost brand new Fuji X-Pro1. Enjoy!
A walk in the forest – Lifestyle Portrait Photography Part 2
Continuing from the previous lifestyle portrait photography session, here is another part of the walk. It was a beautiful day, and fall colors were spectacular. It was hard not to take a bad picture. Then again using my two favorite cameras, namely the Fuji X-Pro1 and the Sony NEX-7, makes taking images great fun. Not much can be said about this part of the walk, so please enjoy the images!
Sensual Portrait of a Girl in the Rain
This idea came from another photographer, and it didn't exactly go as planned :) I don't mind. I was there shooting just for the fun of it. Location wasn't what the other photographer envisioned either. The whole set up was going to be "sad girl in the rain".... it didn't rain that morning. Since we needed water, and at the original location access to water was difficult, we changed it to my back yard. We simulated the rain with a hose.... needless to say, my wife got almost as wet as the Girl in the Rain. It was a cold morning as well, so this took a few tries, as the poor, brave Brittany faced the cold weather and cold water. I was shooting with both the Fuji X-Pro1 and the Sony NEX-7. Today I only shoot with these two cameras. They are both great for weddings, engagements, portraits , landscape .... you name it. They are small, light, and portable, and don't attract too much attention. I highly, highly recommend both of these cameras. Here are some images from the session in the "rain", where sad, turned to sensual. Enjoy!

End of Summer - Portraits in the Park... Part 2
Shooting with Fuji X-Pro1 definitely changed my way of taking pictures. It slowed me down, and made me think. I found that with a DSLR, I would take more than a few images of the same scene, and really end up with way too many images that then would have to be scrapped. Lots of time wasted. With the Fuji, I found myself evaluating the scene in front of me, and try to capture it the best way. Which means less images, but more keepers. These portraits, were taken during the End of Summer shoot... I somehow ended up shooting a lot more with Brittany, then any other model in the group. Did not shoot a lot of frames that day, but it's not the quantity that counts, at the end of it all.... it's the quality. So please... Enjoy!
End of Summer - Portraits in the Park... Part 1
At the end of summer me and Randy Pond from Randy Pond Photography, decided to hold an End of Summer shoot. We gather a few models, and photographers, decide on a spot and go shoot :) This year we were in a park close to the river valley. There is not much that can be said really... it was all about light and images. One thing I found hard was to hold a reflector in one hand, and manually focus a lens... but I think I managed with a couple of nice portraits. :) During photography sessions like these, I worry very little about posing. I usually just chat with the model and capture images during the chat. I like to catch the natural smiles and facial expressions, which to me are far more interesting. Enjoy!
Alberta sunset portrait session
I had a pleasure working with Brittany a few times, and every time she adds something special to the images. We did a lifestyle photo session, at an abandoned farm, all with just a Fuji X-Pro1. This is part of that session, or I should say a continuation. Just different time of day and different wardrobe :) Shooting with the Fuji X-Pro1 is such a pleasure, easy and relaxing. Here are some images from that evening, enjoy!
Lifestyle session with Fuji X-Pro1
This was my main test of an actual portrait and lifestyle photography using just the Fuji X-Pro1 camera. I left my Canon DSLRs at home with all their heavy lenses. The change in shooting is significant. No more "spray and pray" technique. Fuji slows things down a notch. It makes you think about each shot. It's light to carry with the assortment of lenses. It's a joy to use. Lately I've noticed that I make images with the Fuji, more and more. My Canons have been appropriated by my wife, who's also my partner in the MiKSMedia Photography adventure... and so far I have not missed those big cameras. Enjoy!
Portraits at the old Farm
This is part of a series, taken from, what one could call a lifestyle portrait session. We ended up on this old abandoned farm north east of Edmonton. It's quite a wonderful location, that still has a few of the structures still intact. This was my first full Fuji X-Pro1 portrait/lifestyle session, and I have to say that the camera performed perfectly. Then again, really, it's hard to take a bad picture with a beautiful woman in front of the camera :) Enjoy!
Images of a Survivor
I've signed up to IPH (I Picture Hope) because a good friend, told me about it. It is an international network of professional photographers, makeup artists, and stylists who work together to offer free photo sessions to women who are fighting or surviving breast cancer. I was a little nervous, since this a group of really good, professional photographers, doing really serious work. Well shortly after I signed up I got a message that there was a person in Edmonton looking for a photographer. I got in touch with Jo the next day, and setup a little portrait session. I was very nervous, to say the least. I could write a whole essay about Jo, but really it wouldn't be enough. She is an inspiration. Battling and winning, cancer, her attitude is uplifting, and infectious. Everyone in studio was smiling and laughing. Great times. I was given permission by Jo, to post some images on this blog. If you are a photographer, a make up artist, or a stylist, and would like to help a great organization, go to their Facebook page and sign up: I Picture Hope.
Portrait of a Photographer ... part 2
Shooting portraits, I like to mix things up a little bit. Tilt-shift lens, a fan, and a different colored background light. I really like how these images turned out, even though, the tilt-shift lens is manual focus, and the fan had no base, so I had to hold it with my legs. I really like the red light peeking through her hair... enjoy! Mac
Portraits of a Photographer ... part 1
Olivia is one of these photographers that has a tons of talent, and personality, but also looks wonderful in front of the camera. I've shot with Olivia a few times, and even was honored to do her family photography . So it's always a pleasure to be the one behind the camera shooting her. Enjoy! Mac
A simple portrait
A few weeks back Kasia and me, were asked if we could shoot a simple portrait session. So we broke out the studio, setup the lights and went to work. It was a lot of fun, and lots of giggles. That's how we do things at MiKSMedia.... fun and giggles. Enjoy! Mac
Nicole in Black
I have to say Nicole Goreski is a great model. I shot with her only once, but during that session she was really great to work with. Here some more images from the session in Randy Pond's studio. Enjoy! Mac
